Gideon- Strategy of Warfare

Join this HeartCry Prayer- Every Tuesday 11.30am-2.30pm (UK time)

Judges 7: 12-18

God uses the weak things to confound the wise Vs. 13-15
Barley was the meal for cattle or dogs but men resorted to it because of famine or poverty. It was the emblem of a thing despised. A barley cake was generally made upon the fireplace. A hole is made in the ground and paved with stones. In this, a fire was made and when the stones were hot, a thin layer of barley meal was laid upon them, covered over with the ashes and thus quickly and roughly baked. The cake is likened to the same thinness used as Passover cakes by the Jews.
  • 1 Cor. 1: 25-29 Alleluia; our Gideon’s are candidates of God’s mercy.
  • Pray that they will not overly focus on the instruments for battle but look to the God who makes and uses the instruments.
  • Heb. 4:12 The Word of God can overturn and collapse any tent. Make our Gideon, men of the Word
  • Help them esteem Your Word above all, relying on the Word for encouragement, inspiration, counsel, guidance etc.
  • Raise them as men of faith willing to thrust out into the sea at the Lord’s bidding without waiting for proof that the waters will not overwhelm them.

Strategy of Warfare Vs. 16
The impurity of the age will never be cleansed except by the prevalence of the Gospel! The infidelity of the period will never die before any assault but that of the pure truth of the living word - Charles Spurgeon.

God’s strategy to overthrow the Midianites involved pitchers, lamps and trumpets with 300 men. No weaponry; no other intelligence; no plan B; no supporting troop or soldiers.
We have this treasure in earthen vessels –pitchers. That is the reason we should not glory in man (2 Cor 4:7 & 1 Cor 3:21).
  • Fortify our Gideon with a deep seated revelation of the Gospel of Jesus that arms them to go to battle with the only needful weapon- CHRIST in me the hope of glory.
  • All our Gideons must stand with the flaming torch of the Truth of God in their hand and the trumpet of the complete gospel in mouth.
  • Let it dawn on them that a broken pitcher is capable of inestimable exploits in God’s hands.
  • An unbroken/self filled/carnal/stony pitcher cannot reflect Christ. It will only reflect its own light which naturally fades away- Brokenness is what we long for.
  • Phil 2:14-15- Make them Sons of God who illuminate Jesus to this dying world.
  • 1 Cor 14:8- The testimony and witness of our Gideons must be certain and clear. It must not rob Christ of HIS power.
Discipleship (Look at me and do Likewise..... you shall do as I do) Vs. 17
The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up... Acts 1:1-2a
Jesus is our model discipler- he lived out first what he taught till the day in which He was taken up before asking others to follow suit.
  • Let the benchmark that our Gideon’s desire to attain be CHRIST not any man or cloud of witness.
  • Like Jesus, our Gideon will be men in whom the Word has become life; men who have proved the Word to be true, living and efficacious.
  • Jesus, be palpable and so pronounced inside our Gideon’s such that when they ask us to imitate them we will in effect be imitating CHRIST (1 Cor. 11:1 & 1 Cor 4:16).
  • Transform our Gideon such that those who follow them (look, watch and do as they do) today become John the beloved; Apostle Paul and Watchman Nee of tomorrow.
Blow the Trumpet Vs. 18
  • Let this principle be true for our Gideon- Men who have and are still being conquered by God now sent forth to conquer others.
  • Men whose life have reached the climax of absolute surrender to CHRIST and are now endued with grace to bring men’s hearts to bow to Jesus.
  • Let their war cry be - Christ and Him crucified.
  • Our Gideon will sing of nothing else but Christ’s birth, His life, His death, His burial, His Resurrection, His Reign and His second coming.

Our weapon is the torch of the complete gospel; the life of Jesus Christ flaming forth through the breaking of our earthen vessels. Blow the trumpet sound earnestly and with a sense of urgency. Our heart cry is –‘Behold HE comes quickly’.

Gideon- Moving Forward

Join this HeartCry Prayer- Every Tuesday 11.30am-2.30pm (UK time)

Judges 7:9-11 (NKJV)

“It happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, ‘Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand. 10 But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant, 11 and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.’ Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outpost of the armed men who were in the camp.”

Looking Back
·   God located our Gideon and brought him out of hiding.
·   God called forth was He saw in Gideon- mighty man of valour
·   God engaged Gideon, arresting him so that he would pursue the purpose for which he was born.
·  We prayed that Calvary and de-cluttering will be real to our Gideon.
·  God instructed Gideon to throw down altars of Baal and build an enduring altar to the LORD.
·  Gideon obeyed God- denied and forsook SELF/ambition/manliness to embrace and pursue CHRIST.
·  Christ assured Gideon of victory over the Midianites but did not want them to take the glory.
·  Gideon and his soldiers were exposed to a test/selection process that reduced the soldiers from 32,000 to 300 men.
·  We held God’s hand trusting that HIS test today (the full gospel) will do a thorough work in our Gideon’s spirit, soul and body.
·  We pleaded that our Gideons will hinge their lives on Christ especially in trying times and when instructions from the Lord make no rational sense.
·  We cried out to God that our Gideons will be among the few but great company of men proclaiming HIS word.

Moving Forward
ü  It happened on the same night...
The LORD is eager and willing to subdue the Midianites (the devil and his host). He is itching to fill our nations with disciples. He is longing for the message of the Cross to fill the whole earth as waters cover the sea. Christ desires to present every man back to GOD blameless and holy. The limiting factor is lack of Wells/ Vessels/ Containers/ Gideons.
·  Help our Gideons perceive the longing of the heart of CHRIST.
·  Lord, we do nott want to constitute a delay to Your purpose.
·  Lord, Your interest in our Gideons- let it come out; let it begin to find expression.
·  Hasten Your work in our Gideon.
·  The reason You turned Your eyes to our Gideons- make it manifest.

ü  Arise... for I have delivered it into your hand
Bring your Gideon before the LORD solemnly... Victory was assured even before battle commenced. What kind of God is this? A God who delights in allowing our Gideons to be the colt that will step on the red carpet. God has already defeated the Midianites but needs our Gideons just to front at the battle lines for HIM. God is pleased to make our Gideons objects of His mercy; and the extension of HIS outstretched hands against the Midianites.
What if he did this to make the riches of His glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory?— Rom. 9:23

What ought to be the response of our Gideons?
·    Lord, let this revelation cause spontaneous outburst of praise in our Gideons.
·    On the back drop of this revelation, cause them to arise and be the answers of the cries/groans of this world.
·     Help them climb on the wings of grace knowing that the LORD is the one who wills and does HIS good pleasure inside them.

ü  But if you are afraid
·    Lord, You did not chastise Gideon because he was afraid. Instead you reassured him again and strengthened his conviction of victory over the Midianites.
·    We are grateful that You are yet again so patient with our Gideons.

LORD, please address all the fear that still plagues their hearts – fears that make them hesitant to forge ahead.

COME DRINK NEW WINE! MEN OF COURAGE!-Judges 7

V 5-8. The Gospel is the test of God's army today. Count our men among God's great company.

- V5. The water brook where thirst is quenched with limitless spring. How will people respond to sudden provision and spoils of war when the battle is won in revival?

- V6. Some will drink voraciously, getting on their knees to abandon themselves to the spoil. Baptised into the spoils of war and no longer watching unto prayer. Captured completely by the victories of revival.

* Many started well with their wives but now suddenly discover they are no longer God's will after a little success in ministry. Divorce and remarriage on the increase among men of the faith.
* Many knew how to be abased and how to abound, but now they only know how to abound. Abased and sacrifice totally erased from their lives' dictionary.
* Many started very humble and approachable (like David), but now they are so drunk with anointing people are afraid to ask them simple questions pertaining to life and godliness.
* Many were quick to give God the glory but now like Nebuchadnezzar, it is "Babylon...that I have built..." (Daniel 4:29). They are now in charge.
* Many started as disciples but now the anointing teaches them all things so they do not submit to anyone anymore. They are the final authority.
Destroyed by the provisions of revival, like Achan (Joshua 7), Judas Iscariot, Demas, etc.

V 5-8. The Gospel is the test of God's army today.
ü  Let the Gospel work on our men, beginning from the spirit and work through their soul- mind, intellect, feelings, emotions, will. And, even through the physical and tangible.
ü  Shake the shakables of their lives so the unshakable can remain- Jesus' life only.
ü  Give them revelation knowledge of God's test kit- the Gospel of Jesus. Let them pursue the Gospel that establishes CHRIST INSIDE them. Only then can we have hope for God's glory  in their lives and know that by the grace of God they will not derail and cause confusion to many.

Many are called, few chosen. The ratio of 300 to 32,000? Approx. 1-100
For every 100 men that come to God's battle, only 1 pleases Him.
ü  Count our men among the few that will be chosen.
ü  Remove from them everything that can make You reject them.

V8. Host of Median beneath in the valley. Gideon above.
Though a host, but beneath Gideon. What is the point being a host if you will only be beneath in the valley?
When God finds His men, though few, the host of Satan is beneath them. Like Herod king of Judea, a host backed by the Roman authorities but beneath Peter and the Church- Acts 12.
ü  Open their eyes to see that one with God is a majority. Make them confident in this.
ü  Help them know that they are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, far above principalities and powers. They are above, the enemy is beneath.
ü  Like Gideon, make them men of faith who will go all the way with God even when it doesn't make natural sense.
ü  Let them see the victory before the battle. Let them see God before the challenges.

Make our men real just like Gideon and his 300. Amen.

COME DRINK NEW WINE! MEN OF COURAGE- The Mystery Of The Gospel

Jesus died on the cross to destroy Adam in us all- 1Cor 15:3, 45.

ü  Destroy the adamic nature in all our men. The nature which makes a man "too much" for God- the very life, the DNA of adam.
ü  Destroy the habits of the adamic nature in all our men.
ü  Destroy the habitation of sin, the world system in them. A soldier going to war does not entangle himself with the affairs of this world.
ü  Give our men a complete life exchange like men that have gone before them.
ü  A man of courage must begin his journey with the miracle of life exchange. Let it be clear in our men

“Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creature;
Old things have passed away; Behold all things are become new.”
            (2Corinthians 5:17)

Our men will receive definite life exchange, and become new creation men. Men of Calvary.

Gideon- Early Rising

Judges 7:1-2

ü  Rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod Vs. 1
The battle is fierce; raging and the end is swiftly wrapping up but man has limited time. We must work while it is day for the night time comes when no one can work. God’s assessment of Joshua’s labour at a time in his life was that he was advanced in years –but there were still territories/land to be conquered- Joshua 13:1-7.
·         Capture and captivate our men to rise up in the morning cycle of their life AND encamp beside CHRIST.
·         Help them consult; dialogue and partner with the Wellspring of life (Holy Spirit).
·         Plead with God that our men will not be void of strength or emptied of their best whilst there still remain nations/souls to be conquered.
·         Grace and wisdom to maximise the help (platforms) that YOU have provided to groom our Gideon. (Trip to Calvary & Men’s Online Bible Study).

ü  The armies of Midian were camped north of them Vs. 1b
It is possible to rise early, to set out to battle and put once life at stake but without CHRIST commit to a lost or wrong cause.
·         LORD, let the opponent be clear to our Gideon.
·         Inject into our Gideon- focus; a clear vision; the scope, the climax, and their destination inside CHRIST

ü  The LORD said to Gideon Vs. 2

·         Gideon’s who are intimately connected and reliant on CHRIST- able to receive and run with instructions.
·         Gideon’s who refuse to settle with stale bread of the Word but daily seek CHRIST for fresh insights.

ü  You have too many men Vs. 2

·         Highlight to our Gideon this ‘men’ that makes it difficult for YOU to deliver Midian into their hands.
·         Help them take definite step to be stripped of all the ‘men’ that ordinarily makes them strong. Their strength is in GOD alone.

·         The victories must be ascribed to Christ alone even though fought by our Gideon.
